Biography
William Young
William Young
was born in Abilene, Texas in 1952. Young's formal art training
included drawing and printmaking courses at the University of Dallas,
East Texas State University, and Stephen F. Austin State University.
Young also studied painting technique with his father Ancel Nunn
at the artist's studio in Palestine, Texas where he helped in the
production of several of Nunn's lithographs. Other influences on
Young's art work include the artistts Rene Magritte, Joseph Cornell,
Aaron Bohrod, and Donald Roller Wilson.
William's first
art show at nineteen was the Temple Emanu-el Art Festival in 1976
where his etching The Last Letter was judged best-in-show
by a panel of judges that included Harry Parker, then Director of
the Dallas Museum of Art.
While Young continued to create personal art, he also pursued a
career in commercial design. In 2003, Young left commercial design,
purchased a home and studio on thirty acres in East Texas and dedicated
himself to painting full time.
"I've always been attracted to works that
include a kind of magic or surreal realism. My images portray a
paradoxical situation of extraordinary or unexpected objects in
realistic settings."
Young's paintings,
prints, and drawings are included in many private collections and
have been shown in solo and group exhibitions. Young is represented
by David Dike Estates Gallery II, Dallas, TX. For availability and
